Purrington’s Cat Lounge, a cat cafe in Portland
Purrington’s Cat Lounge is a cat cafe in Portland, Oregon. They opened their doors to the feline fanatics on January 24th, 2015. Since the opening, over 90 cats have been adopted by Purrington’s patrons. The building is split into two unique spaces- the “Cat Lounge” and the cafe. The cover charge for the Cat Lounge is $8 per hour to help fund care for the felines. The cafe offers a small bites menu from local area businesses including the following- Sergio’s Chips and Salsa, Meat & Cheese plate, Fluer De Lis pasteries, Tula gluten free options, and cat shaped cookies from Little Red’s Bakeshop. Beverages include coffee, tea, draft and draft beers, and cider. Best cat inspired beverage- Meowmosas.
Purrington’s is working with CAT (Cat Adoption Team) to bring in 8 to 10 cats to the lounge with the end goal of adoption. “We are really excited about the unique possibilities there — the way the people would be able to interact with the cats in a very home-like environment,” says Heather Svoboda, CAT’s communications and development manager. “It’s a really nice way to see a cat’s truer personality, which helps you make a good choice if you are out adopting.” Purrington’s emphasizes the benefits of getting to know a particular cat over a period of time. When adopting from a shelter, there is only a limited amount of time you can spend with your prospective family member. At this cat cafe in Portland, you can visit the kitties as often as you like. The will be more like themselves at the Cat Lounge, because of the comfortable and loving environment.
